Unrivalled Beauty

Bruny Island is comprised of two distinct landforms, joined by a narrow isthmus called 'the neck', where Bruny Island's famous penguin colonies are located.

Bruny Island measures about 50 kilometres in length and on our extensive eco cruise you will travel the length of the island, from the pastoral tip of North Bruny Island to the pristine wilderness of South Bruny Island and back again.

Prior to the European settlement, Bruny Island was the home of the Nuenonne people. The Nuenonne name for Bruny Island was Lunawanna - Alonah, and both of these names remain on Bruny Island as towns on the island's west coast.

The most famous Bruny Island Aborigine was Truganini. Truganini was born on Bruny Island around 1812. Her father, Mangana, was a chief of the Nuenonne as was her husband Woureddy. The Bruny Island Aboriginal people retain a significant presence on the island and a large sheep station, Murrayfield, is managed by them in conjunction with the Indigenous Land Corporation (ILC).

While much of North Bruny Island is now used for sheep and other forms of agriculture, most of South Bruny Island is still wilderness, including a large portion categorised as National Park.

On the Bruny Wildlife Adventure cruise you will be taken into that wilderness where you will have a chance to encounter Bruny Island's marine wildlife in its natural habitat, not just above the waves, but in that unexplored wilderness beneath the waves. Our tour boat's remote operated vehicle camera (ROV) will take you into Bruny Island's lush sea gardens, swaying kelp forests and the hidden places where Tasmania's enigmatic marine creatures dwell.

It is an unforgettable experience to see large marine wildlife in its natural habitat and the seas around Bruny Island nurture many species of marine mammals, including seals, dolphins and whales.

Bruny Island's rugged east coast is a true wilderness area where towering cliffs rise out of the wild ocean offering homes to many birds such as the giant sea eagle. Your cruise will take you up close the Bruny Island's coast and into amazing coves, bays and caves along the way where you will never know what wildlife you might see.
